Sri.Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Communications & I T who released Project Arrow’s Blue Book, a set of rules and guidelines to be followed by every Post Office covered under the Project, said on 5th Feb.’09 said that the Department will be spending Rs.900 crore for upgrading the infrastructure of 4500 Post Offices, giving them better connectivity through broad band and providing internet facilities to customers and within six months all the Head Post Offices and Mukhya Dak Ghars and other important post offices both in rural and urban areas will be covered under this project.
The Minister claims that the Project so far has been highly successful in regard to improved delivery of mail and money orders besides given better facilities to Postmen particularly those working in rural areas.
The Minister said that the aim of the department is to equip all post offices with the latest technology so that mail delivery and money orders mechanism gets faster and more efficient and established a system where we can track delivery of mail, money orders and other articles delivered through Post Offices.
He added that the department had taken help from global consultant McKinesey and other government agencies for the modernization programme.
According to the Minister, that after this project is completed, India Post plans to diversify in other fields like financing, retail and banking.
